CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) has Health Benefits for Diabetes
CLA (Conjugated linoleic acid) was first discovered back in the 1970’s and 80’s as a fatty acid found in red meat and other dairy products by Dr. Michael Pariza. This enzyme is found in greater amounts in grass fed, free to graze animals. Since its discovery there have been many scientific studies on this natural fatty acid.
Diabetes Connection
According to Dr. Martha Belury and Dr. John Vandel Heuvel the effects on
type 2 diabetes
have included decreasing triglycerides, help with insulin and leptin signaling and improved glucose utilization. This acid seems to protect cells from inflammation, cancer and developing diabetes.
Diabetics who added it to their daily routine had lower body mass and lower blood sugar levels. Researchers discovered that higher levels of this fatty acid in the bloodstream led to lower levels of leptin. Many scientists believe that high levels of leptin in the body may play a significant role in obesity, a huge risk factor for type 2 diabetes.
