Coffee with caffeine or without Which is better for Diabetes?
Many people enjoy a steamy, hot cup of coffee to get them going in the morning without even giving a thought to how will this affect my diabetes. This raises some interesting questions, like is it good for diabetes and should I be drinking regular or decaffeinated?
A short answer is both regular and decaffeinated will help lower your blood sugar and help you manage or control your diabetes better.
In a recent study in Australian they looked at 18 studies of nearly 458,000 people and it has been determined that the more you drink, whether it is regular or decaffeinated, the lower your risk of diabetes. On average people who drank three to four cups per day have about a 25% lower risk of diabetes. The people who drank 7 or more cups per day it dropped their risk of type 2 diabetes by an astounding 50%. Each additional cup consumed in a day is associated with a 7% reduction in the risk of diabetes.
Some studies have shown that it has a positive effect on diabetes, but it’s clear that it has nothing to do with the caffeine. It has antioxidants or nutrients that help prevent tissue damage caused by molecules called oxygen-free radicals. It also contains minerals like
magnesium
and
chromium
which helps the body better use the hormone insulin that keeps the blood sugar effectively regulated.
Just in case you need more reasons to enjoy a hot cup.
