Glimepiride (Amaryl)

Understand how this medication works and its side effects


Glimepiride Glimepiride (Amaryl) is an oral medication in a class of drugs called sulfonylureas and a commonly used drug to help treat type 2 diabetes.


It works in two ways:

1) Helps your pancreas make more insulin
2) Helps your body use the insulin it makes


Before you consider taking this drug please consult with your doctor about the following medical conditions because some conditions may interact with this medication:

- Pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast feeding
- Allergies to medicine, foods, or other substances
- History of stroke or liver, kidney, thyroid, heart, or blood vessel problems - Stomach or bowel problems
- Poor health, high fever, a severe infection, severe diarrhea, high blood acid levels, or severe injury
- History hormonal problems, such as adrenal or pituitary problems, or low blood sodium levels
- Having a surgery



Common:

- Nausea

Severe:

- Allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
- Chest pain or irregular heartbeat
- Confusion
- Dark urine
- Fainting
- Fever
- Chills
- Persistent sore throat
- Low blood sugar symptoms (dizziness, drowsiness, tremors, unusual sweating, weakness)
- Severe or persistent blurred vision or other vision problems
- Unusual bruising or bleeding
- Unusual tiredness or weakness
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
